On 1st July 2016, as the UK MOI Global team are arriving at work, 10 team members will be missing from our traditional Pizza Friday.
Why? For one very good reason. Or three, depending on how you look at it.
10 MOI Global misfits have banded together to form the Mount 10, facing the mighty challenge of the National 3 Peaks Challenge in 24 hours. “Go hard or go home” has become our mantra, with regular training and preparations well underway for this mighty challenge.
The challenge starts on Thursday 30th June at approximately 5am as we start our long drive to Scotland. After a very early, sensible night in we will set off at 10am on Friday 1st July on our first hike up Ben Nevis, the highest of the three peaks at 1,345 metres.
Next is Scafell Pike – the one most on our minds as this will be done almost entirely in the dark, starting at 10pm at night. With an ascent of 989m it’s no small feat!
Finally, starting (if all goes to plan!) at 6am we will begin our 723m ascent of Snowdon.
Approximately 14 hours of walking, and 10 hours of driving within 24 hours – what could go wrong? Well, plenty, which is what makes this such a challenge for us all. With mixed outdoors and hiking experience between us, we have a very long way to go but are dedicated and determined to succeed as a team. Already we have learnt some very valuable lessons:
– Make sure your water bottle lids are closed in your rucksacks (Georgie)
– No going out the night before (Hasna)
– Boots are better than trainers (Zara)
– Walking sticks are a miraculous invention (Everyone)
So, why are we doing it?
It’s all in aid of Cancer Research UK, a charity close to many hearts across MOI Global, but particularly poignant for one of the Mount 10 who sadly lost her Father to cancer in 2015. Needless to say, this challenge is a tough one physically and emotionally.
Cars have been hired, rucksacks have been bought, boots are being worn in, and training has started.
All that’s left is to raise £2,000 for Cancer Research UK, and that’s where we would love and appreciate your help. To donate to our challenge, visit www.justgiving.com/MOIGlobal. We promise to reward you with enough entertaining photos, videos and live-streams during the hike to make it extra worthwhile!
